I live to make an environment where all life thrives, for the amazing diversity on this planet and for our children.  I do this by helping everyone be part of the solution.

Why do you work for Better Century, and what do you do?
I work for Better Century as I believe that people want to live and work in a world, where all life thrives.  Better Century has the mission, governance, vision and values that can enable that with incremental impact and at scale.

I have created Better Century from scratch, going through many iterations of our business plan, landing now at a scalable model, founded in the experience of following our vision.  My work includes:

  • Consulting to Nature4Climate and Sheepdrove Organic farm, our oldest clients.
  • Inducting new Civil Society and Business Clients, and matching them with our associate consultant team.
  • Delivering the Transition Leadership Training Course for some cohorts.
  • Conducting analysis of individual impacts, whilst writing and enhancing the NetPositiveLifeApp.
  • Promoting °Cool Human, the book I’ve written to enable anyone to be ‘Net Positive’ for nature and climate.
  • Building our business to support more people as quickly as possible.

What experience do you have to deliver this work?
I have worked in several roles over the last 25 years, which have all focused on creating a better society.  I started in philanthropy, raising hundreds of millions for education, so to widen access and provision, through Buffalo Fundraising Consultants.  I then directed my attention to the environment, doing policy work for RenewableUK, and Ricardo Energy and the Environment, consulting to the UK Government, European Commission, World Bank and Aston Martin.  I then took leading policy and fundraising roles in the Green Party and The Wildlife Trusts, before starting Better Century.  I also now sit as a Councillor leading the Greener Communities Portfolio at Cherwell District Council.

My varied unique experience allows me to provide acute solutions to technical, operational and engagement challenges for people to deliver individual or organisational change.  I proudly back this up through my education; I hold a BSc in Zoology and MSc in Environmental Science.

What do you believe is needed to overcome the nature and climate challenge?
Belief in people.  The last 30 years of action on nature and climate has taught us that these challenges can’t be delivered by government imposing regulation or incentives, corporates and banks having targets, nor entrepreneurs magicing up solutions.  We have pointed the finger at these actors, and it has failed.  We need everyone to be the solution.  That takes for us to believe that the majority of people want to solve this problem.
