Individuals

For people to be the solution to the nature and climate challenge, personal action is needed.  We then become authentic in what we ask from others.

We know this transition is a hard one, so we have written a book °Cool Human, have created the NetPositiveLifeApp, and offer courses to support people to make this transition.

Our support helps people understand why others aren’t taking action (giving cultural and psychological context), explains the internal and external impact of personal action, whilst educating and providing equipment to overcome the emotional challenge of the nature and climate crisis.

We help people move through the pain points, with the book and courses providing guidance and support, and the app giving a very practical tool to align one’s life with global goals for nature and climate.  The support alleviates anxiety, builds knowledge and gives life more meaning.

Sustainability leaders, through to ordinary people, read our book, take our course, and use our app, to be a living demonstration of the future we can make.  This instills belief, gives direct experience of solutions, whilst providing agency to create a better world.

Case study

Casey Pevensey, London

Casey has been working in sustainability for over ten years.  In feeling a sense of despair and disempowerment about the climate and nature crisis, she found Better Century’s resources. She began using the NetPositiveLifeApp, but was struggling to find the motivation to create a plan.  She was also struggling in her work to feel that she was delivering real impact.

She decided to sign up for the Transition Leadership Course to understand how she could empower herself to do more in her own life and through her work. The cohort she joined had six people, of whom three were in exactly the same position as her.

Tom Beckett, led the course. Over the six weeks course Casey learnt through Climate Fresk and Nature Collage the cause and effect of climate change and nature loss, giving her the capacity and confidence to speak about this more fluidly. Training on the psychological barriers for taking personal action, and the systemic challenges causing the cycle of inaction, helped her develop an understanding of why she and others resist taking personal action.

The six week course with Tom and Better Century, felt like it turned a light on inside me.  I have really struggled with the climate crisis, going through bouts of anxiety and depression, and have really struggled to deliver real impact in my job in sustainability. It has been a dark few years.  Having done the Transition Leadership Course, and in completing my Net Positive Life plan, I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.  I no longer get angry at others for not taking action, as I am doing everything I can, and understand that is all I can really do.  I speak with my friends and work colleagues with understanding of their challenges in embracing action.  I have set up a Transition Task Force at work, which the board is taking seriously.  I genuinely feel that this will make a breakthrough.  I now live in hope rather than fear.
